Quilting madness!!!!

Recently ever since i have moved back home and now working full time i have gone crazy for quilting. I work now in a sewing shop and love it, the people here are amazing and have really inspired me to try new projects. All the ladies of which i work with are sewing experts and have taught me a lot in the past few months.
One thing that really got my interest was quilting, i have never tried it before but i thought i would give it a go. Luckily i have a friend who is about to have a baby, so i thought i would test my skills and try to make one for a present to give to her son who will be born soon. In this quilt I have also sewn out my own applique designs which i have made myself and used blues as my main choice of colour. I came across quite a few mistakes but eventually finished my quilt with pleasing results.

My friend loved my qulit and encouraged me to make more in the future :) !!

My work at New Designers 2012 in London

Here is my work that i did in my last year of university for my final major project. This work was then shown at the New Designers 2012 in London. The experience was amazing and i found that a lot people gave me great compliments about my work. My work consists of three costume neck pieces which have been made from silk paper which i then dyed with batik. The mushrooms are made from free standing embroidery which i created with a sewing machine.

Magical world of fungus

Even though am studying at hull college of art and design, i originally come from Lancashire.  i live on a farm up in the countryside near a town called Oswaldtristle. Around my farm their are a lot of woodlands around me. Here i have found all these different types of fungus by exploring the woods, i was really interested in their shapes and colours. I also found some really unusual fungus around my farm. I find these to be really inspirational and surreal so i have decided to take this theme into my final major project for my last year at university.

i found this type of fungus on a dying chopped up log which i found in one of my fields on my farm.

This black and white fungus is called dead mans fingers. It was growing on a log which my dad had in a shed.

here are some mushrooms and mold growing on rotting logs.

I found this to be the most unusual fungus that i found. At first i had no clue what it actually was so i decided to do some research about it. I found out that it was called jelly ear fungus and that it was actually edible to eat.
I love the unusual colours in the fungus i found. The colours all seem to blend in really nicely together.

End of year foundation degree show 2011

This is my end of year foundation degree show at hull college 2011. I had such a good two years studying textiles design at hull college. I learnt a lot and discovered that i loved to make textile jewellery. These necklaces and bracelets were inspired by tropical flowers and i used free motion stitch and felt making to make my collection. Am so pleased with the way it turned out and i will continue to make jewellery in my top up year for my full BA degree.

Foundation Degree- Final Major Project

During my last year of my foundation degree, for my final major project I decided to make embroidered jewellery based on tropical flowers. Using felt making, free motion embroidery on dissolvable film, beading and cut work i created three necklaces and three bracelets for my collection. I was so pleased with the way they turned out and would like to do more in the future.

Feren's Art Gallery Project in Hull

In my second year of university at hull school art and design, my first project was linked in with looking at the museum of hull and east riding in Hull. I took interest in the Celtic relics and swords which they were showing in the museum. From this i created a tapestry/patchwork of modern and old day warfare, I used techniques such as hand and machine embroidery, combining this with beading, transfer imagery and batik. My work was then chosen to be exhibited in the Feren's art gallery were it was the for a month. Even thought this was a lot of hard work in the end it was all worth it.
